Material Handling/Mechanical Assembly



VMETRO, Inc. is looking for a results-oriented team player who performs combination of tasks including but not limited to: receiving and stocking incoming equipment, materials, and supplies; packaging and preparing shipments in accordance with established procedures and/or commercial standards; a range of skilled assembly operations to produce quality products in a timely manner. Must be able to organize a variety of tasks, work with minimum amount of supervision as well as part of a team. Position is based in an office environment (not a warehouse) in Houston, TX.

Primary responsibilities include:

Material Handling

  • Makes sure that items are properly tagged, labeled and bin located
  • Delivers materials to appropriate departments accurately
  • Assembly of kits for manufacturing
  • Maintains accurate inventory
  • Enter lab production reports into a database
  • Performs cycle counts and physical inventory counts
  • Performs system transactions in a timely manner

Receiving/ Shipping

  • Receives incoming materials, supplies and equipment
  • Inspects for damage and defects and takes appropriate action
  • Resolves simple vendor discrepancies and report those that are more complex to a higher level
  • Keep accurate updating of both outstanding and completed purchase orders
  • Labels and tests 3rd party products as required
  • Uncrates and assembles materials and removes and disposes of unneeded packing materials
  • Assists in preparing crates and other items to be shipped
  • Prepares packing to meet customer standards
  • Contacts appropriate shipping companies when shipping items
  • Maintain daily tracking list
  • Keep shipping and inventory areas organized, clean, safe and secure
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of shipping supplies

Mechanical Assembly

  • Performs a wide range of skilled repetitive mechanical assembly operations in support of production projects.
  • Assembles, modifies, reworks, and/or reassembles production components utilizing drawings, pick tickets, process documentation, and/or verbal instructions
  • Prepares and utilizes basic hand tools and machines including but not limited to power screwdriver, ruler, heat gun, vise and crimpers
  • Cleans parts prior to production use as required
  • Identifies wires with use of basic color code sequence
  • Participates in first time production runs of new products

General

  • Completes all required paperwork; prepares required reports and correspondence
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed
  • Performs required administrative tasks; prepares all required reports and correspondence
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager

Minimum Requirements/Experience:

  • Three or more years related experience
  • US Citizenship or permanent residency status
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to identify colors
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions and assembly drawings
  • Familiarity with various mechanical and electrical measuring equipment

Desired Experience:

  • Computer literacy 
  • Background knowledge of UPS, FedEx, DHL and other domestic and international shipping
